Citizen Profile: Celebrating 5 years of support from Sky Brown!

It’s five years since Sky Brown joined the Citizens of Skateistan and we couldn’t be prouder that she supports our work! Sky is an inspiration to so many people, including our students. She’s an incredible surfer and skateboarder and she’s proving, time and again, that age, size and gender don’t need to get in the way of your dreams.

Not only is Sky an absolute phenomenon on her skateboard, she’s also always working away to make the world a better place. In 2018 she visited our Skate School in Cambodia and helped us to open our new Skate School location. Since then, she has continually advocated for our work. Skateistan believes in empowering girls and this is a theme that is always close to Sky’s heart. As she says in this video on the Olympic Channel: “One of the most amazing things about Skateistan is that half the kids that go are girls!”

She takes every opportunity to spread the word about what we do and encourage others to support us. As lockdowns began last year, Sky even participated in an Instagram Live on the Skateistan channel, along with skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk.

Even more amazing is Sky’s collab with Almost Skateboards. First launched in 2018, Sky has now designed three decks for Almost, all of which support Skateistan. 20% of the proceeds from every deck comes our way and helps to create safe spaces in our Skate Schools where children can skate, learn and dream.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Sky for her commitment to supporting our work and now wish her the biggest congratulations on winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Sky was the youngest Olympian for GB at the Games this summer and we knew she would do an incredible job. Skateistan students cheered her on from around the world and wished her the best of luck!

Sky Brown becomes Team GB's youngest ever summer Olympian, now youngest ever summer medallist, after finishing in third place in the skateboarding park series final on August 4, 2021.

Sky beat world champion, Misugu Okamoto, while Sakura Yosozumi took gold, Kokona Hiraki the silver, both for Japan. GO GIRLS!
